Laura Rubalcava is currently a bilingual Psychology Associate completing her post-doctoral fellowship training at The MECCA Group, LLC in Washington, DC. She earned her doctorate in clinical psychology at the APA-accredited Chicago School of Professional Psychology in 2018 and earned two Master of Arts degrees in clinical psychology (2013) and community counseling (2009), respectively. She completed her predoctoral internship at the APA-accredited Girard Medical Center of North Philadelphia Health System, a comprehensive, private behavioral health hospital where she served a highly diverse inner-city population, offering both inpatient and outpatient substance abuse counseling and treatments.
Her overall professional goal is to build relationships with her clients and work together using evidence-based treatments for health-related conditions. Dr. Rubalcava’s clinical specialties include working with individuals seeking treatment for obesity and binge eating disorder, as well as the treatment of any condition that affects both mind and body; namely, anxiety, trauma, sleep, depression in children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric populations. Through her individual therapy work Dr. Rubalcava frequently explores how relationships and health are connected, assisting her clients in building and maintaining a strong support network to reinforce health and wellness goals over the long term. She is skilled in providing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), Feminist Therapy, Integrated Psychology, and group and individual psychotherapy.
She has attained work experience in private practice, a university research institute, a pediatric community clinic, a children’s hospital, an elementary school, a rehabilitation hospital, inpatient, outpatient, and residential treatment facility settings. Moreover, Dr. Rubalcava is a passionate lecturer, educator, and program curriculum developer frequently presenting her research focused on educating medical healthcare professionals, so they may confidently and sensitively work with patients seeking treatment for obesity and weight loss.
